Meet Addie, a vibrant senior at Decatur Central High School, eagerly counting down the days until graduation in 2025. We met on a gorgeous fall day at Anderson Orchard in Mooresville, IN. Like many seniors, she’s navigating the exciting yet nerve-wracking college decision process. Addie’s passion for music has led her to set her sights on studying music education, with dreams of becoming a music teacher and inspiring future generations.
Right now, Addie’s got her acceptance letter from Indiana State University (ISU) in hand—woohoo! While she’s still waiting to hear back from Butler, Ball State, and Delaware, ISU is already rolling out the welcome mat. Each school offers something unique for her journey into music education.
As she weighs her options and envisions where she’ll spend the next chapter of her life, one thing’s for sure: wherever she ends up, Addie’s going to rock it. Whether it’s leading a high school band or teaching kids their first notes on a piano, she’s ready to make some noise in the world of music education!
When you think about high school, it’s often a whirlwind of classes, friendships, and extracurriculars. For some students, it’s the thrill of sports or the passion for art. But for one talented student, it’s been all about the music—specifically, her trusty flute and a newly embraced saxophone.
Since day one of high school, she’s been marching to the beat of her own drum—or rather, to the tune of her flute. Being part of the marching band has been more than just an activity; it’s been a community and a source of endless memories. From early morning practices to performing at halftime shows under Friday night lights, playing in the band has shaped her high school experience in ways nothing else could.
But why stop at just one instrument? This year she decided to jazz things up—literally—by picking up the saxophone for jazz band. It was a bit daunting at first; after all, switching from flute to sax isn’t exactly like moving from sneakers to sandals. But with determination and practice (and maybe a few squeaky notes along the way), she’s found her groove. The transition has opened up new musical horizons and given her another outlet for creativity. Jazz band brings its own vibe—a little more swing in every step—and she’s loving every minute of it.
So here’s to those who march boldly into new challenges while keeping their old passions alive. Whether it’s on stage or on the field, this young musician is hitting all the right notes!
